Position Summary:

The Manager, Database Analysis, to support our programs in the area of labor market data (and potentially, over time, in other areas such as Consumer Confidence and Leading Economic Indicators).

Reporting Relationship:

Reports to the Vice President, Strategic Initiatives and Centers
& Vice President and Chief Economist

Principal Direct Activities:

The Manager of Database Analysis will be responsible for maintaining and analyzing our large database of Help Wanted OnLine data; in particular:

  • Ensure the quality of the data itself, by designing and implementing procedures to test the data; and by working with the provider of the data if/when problems arise.
  • Analyze the database to identify major trends (supporting a team of economists who are responsible for the Help Wanted OnLine data series).
  • Access other internal Conference Board databases, and other public databases, to enhance the analysis of labor and economic trends.
  • Prepare the results of the data analysis in a format that is easily readable by business executives (e.g. PowerPoint charts, Excel tables).
  • Interface with external users of the database (e.g. database managers or economists in state and local governments, educational institutions, or financial institutions) to answer technical questions.

Requirements:

The successful candidate will have at least one year of SAS programming experience, or 2 to 3 years of SQL programming experience, as well as a general familiarity with some other analytical packages such as SPSS, Stata, and eViews. Basic familiarity with Microsoft Office is required, but real expertise in PowerPoint, Excel and Access is a plus. Experience in working with databases in a research environment is also a plus.
